Music by Sufjan Stevens, animation by Siebren Versteeg. Thanks to Graeme for this one. (Okay, technically Graeme told Tyler, not me, about this one, just as technically Tyler told Graeme about the tilt shift article (which wasn’t really tilt shift) and I am just sort of lurking around because I know they are the ones who are going to know cool things like this. But so far they have yet to file a restraining order against me, so in gratitude for that I continue to credit them when I post something I stole from them). =)

Correction and gorgeous photos
So it turns out that many of the photographs in that Smashing article in my last post aren’t actual tilt shift, they’re digital imitations. This includes the one by roevin that I featured. Still very neat photos, though. And in investigating my friends Mark and Joel’s allegations (see, Joel, you actually are in this note) I discovered more of roevin’s beautiful photographs. Check them out here.
If you want to see more of roevin’s fake tilt shift, go here. They’re quite impressive.
Tilt shift photography
I don’t know why you would want to make reality look like a toy, but it’s a really cool trick. Thanks to T Clair for the link to this article: http://www.smashingmagazine.com/2008/11/16/beautiful-examples-of-tilt-shift-photography/. My favorite photo is this one by roevin.

My clever friend
Here is the challenge:

And here is my friend Joel’s creation:

Nice, eh? If you want to see how he did it, go here, but try to do it yourself first, it’s fun. And by fun, I mean excruciatingly frustrating.
To see what else Joel is up to, visit his blog, Whistling in the Dark. He actually means that literally as well as figuratively.
